Tissue Slice thickness is measured with a free floating low contact pressure electronic micrometer mounted to a classical stainless steel micrometer stand with a flat anvil. Two cover slips are sandwiched underneath the free floating spindle and the micrometer is then zeroed A tissue slice is then placed flat on one of these cover slips by floating the slice onto a puddle on culture medium and then blotting the medium with tissue paper. The second cover slip is then placed on the top of the slice and the assembly placed underneath the free floating spindle and onto the flat anvil. The electronic micrometer will then directly measure the thickness of the slice.
